Who can have Reflexology?
Reflexology is a non-invasive, safe therapy to have. It is suitable for all ages. It can be really beneficial for children and teenagers, especially during puberty. It can help to calm and lower stress levels, promote sleep and also balance hormones. Please be aware that any clients under the age of 16 will need parental consent and the presence of an adult during the treatment.
Is there any reason I cannot have Reflexology?
There are some reasons which mean I would be unable to treat you. These include:
If you are currently undergoing medical treatment it is recommended you seek advice from your GP. If you want to discuss whether Reflexology is suitable for you, please contact me.
If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, or if you have been in contact with anyone who has any symptoms or anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19, please DO NOT attend your appointment and contact me to rearrange. The cancellation policy will not apply in this circumstance.
What to expect at an appointment
At your first appointment, I will introduce myself and we will have a chat about what you expect from Reflexology and I will answer any questions you may have. I am flexible and want you to be able to fully relax and enjoy your treatment. I provide everything that is needed, a lafuma chair, blankets, bolsters, towels and Reflexology wax/cream, or if you prefer I can carry out the treatment on your sofa or bed, with your own towels etc. I carry out an initial consultation before the treatment starts. You need to remove your shoes and socks and I would suggest wearing comfy clothing… some clients even wear their pyjamas… one of the benefits of me coming to you. During the treatment, I can play relaxing music, or have silence. The hour is yours, if you prefer to talk to me or ask questions, you can, although I do encourage you to close your eyes and relax. When the treatment is finished we have another chat about any imbalances I found in the reflexes and any sensations you felt.
Do you need to know my medical history?
Reflexology is a holistic therapy, which means it works on the whole body to bring it back into balance. At your first appointment, I ask questions about your health and lifestyle, any physical symptoms you are experiencing, along with medications you may be taking. All information discussed is kept completely confidential. You will be asked to sign the consultation form and a privacy form. At subsequent appointments a short questionnaire is completed as we discuss any changes in health and wellbeing.
Does Reflexology hurt or tickle?
Reflexology does not hurt and even those with ticklish feet can usually relax and enjoy a treatment as I use firm pressure. Certain reflex points may feel more sensitive or tender. Different techniques and pressure is used to suit you as an individual. Trust and communication is key between you and I so you relax and get the most out of your treatments.
Are there any side effects?
Following a treatment, you may experience after effects. These are very normal and short-lived. They are positive signs that the body has responded to a treatment and that it is starting to heal and rebalance itself. Some people do not get any after effects.
Typical reactions include:
Follow the below advice after a treatment:
These symptoms are temporary and a sense of well being will follow. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.
Are you COVID safe?
As I offer mobile appointments, the benefit is that I come to you, so you can be comfortable in your own environment. This is particularly important to some clients, especially at the moment as everything I bring to the appointment is sanitised or if preferred, your own towels etc. can be used. I follow the COVID-19 workplace policy (see link below). The day before your appointment I will make contact with you to go through some questions for my COVID-19 risk assessment. I wear a mask throughout your appointment and you must also wear a face covering while I am in your property. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please discuss this with me before your appointment.
